Hello, this is Jane a Senior Education Counsellor from Kingsbridge.
Lately, many of you may be worried about visa refusals. However, if you prepare thoroughly from the beginning, there won’t be any issues.
1. Choosing a Course & School
Before applying for a student visa, selecting the right school and course is crucial. This is because each school has a level assigned by immigration authorities. It’s best to choose a school that aligns with these levels. Each country also has its own level. (Levels 1 to 3—Level 1 is the best, while Level 3 is the lowest)
Schools rated at Level 3 tend to have a higher visa refusal rate. Conversely, the closer to Level 1, the lower the chance of a visa refusal.
After COVID-19, course selection has become even more important. In the past, it was common to apply for a visa with a combined package of a language course and one year of study, and approvals were frequent. However, now, it’s recommended to apply for each course separately (though this depends on the student’s situation).
Immigration authorities mainly focus on your career and potential income (future earnings) after completing your studies and returning to Korea. Therefore, it’s advisable to choose a course related to your current job or a field you are genuinely interested in, rather than just any program.
2. Genuine Statement (GS)
When applying for a visa, you must write a GS letter. While it hasn’t changed significantly from the previous GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant), I highly recommend conducting thorough research before writing it.
Some key points to include:
- Is the course you want to study available in your home country?
- If so, which universities offer it, what are the tuition fees and duration, and why did you choose not to study there?
- What are your plans after graduation in Australia?
- Will you return to your home country for work?
- What are the job requirements and salary expectations for positions in your field in your home country?
- Comparisons between schools and cities within Australia.
You should cover all these aspects and clearly explain why you want to study in your chosen city.
3. Financial Proof
When applying for a visa, you need to provide proof of sufficient funds. The required amount by immigration is $29,710 AUD.
If you are coming with a partner, an additional $10,394 AUD is required. For each child, you need to show $4,449 AUD.
It’s best to show as much financial stability as possible. Providing proof of property ownership, such as land or buildings in your home country, can also be helpful.
